Sampo Malin’s Modified Truth opening today in Jyväskylä Art Museum

The subject of sculptor Sampo Malin’s new installation is about the modified truth in modern society. As a growing phenomenon in all levels of society, this new trend of distorted information has emerged. The peak of this mainly occurs on online forums, but also in other forms of media in surprising number of occasions people express and defend their opinion as the ultimate one with non or manipulated resources. This leads to fabricated stories and loss of interest in otherwise important issues to be discussed in society.

Malin focuses on false and one-sided information and presents the subject in his installation with minimalistic means. With the use of space and illusions Malin’s work encourages us to ask: What has happened, what is happening and what will happen? The viewers become a piece of the art when participating and experiencing the art.

Sampo Malin (b. 1977) : “I am interested in small gestures and storytelling, the implausibility and the impossibility”
