A Present to the Past opens today at Jyväskylä Art Museum

Welcome to the opening of the international printmaking triennial Graphica Creativa today October 7th at 18–20 in Jyväskylä Art Museum!

This year’s edition, titled A Present to the Past, will showcase a selection of international artists whose works discuss the juxtaposition between the current moment and the past. The exhibition reflects on the notion of history and how in our current present we seek to deny the past and celebrate only the now. Instead of cherishing history, it is often considered nostalgia.

Graphica Creativa focuses on looking at the boundaries of printmaking by presenting a selection of artists who work with a variety of both old and new techniques. The show manifests a historical theme also by exhibiting contemporary works of art along with pieces from old masters such as Dürer, Goya and Rembrandt from the collections of the Finnish National Gallery. Finnish Art Agency’s collaborating artist Camilla Vuorenmaa for example combines methods of painting with engraving in her works on wood. For Graphica Creativa Vuorenmaa has exclusively produced a series of prints.

Other artists participating in the exhibition are Torbjörn Damm, Dany Danino, Tom Huck , Catherine Keun, Jean Le Gac, Patrick Merrill, Ernest Pignon-Ernest, Tomas Regan, Teemu Saukkonen, Kiki Smith, Hanna Vihriälä, Camilla Vuorenmaa, Dominik Wlodarek.
